The materials of the future are supposed to secure the future of our planet. This is how high the stakes are set within the world of developing new materials, an undertaking with which both renowned research institutes and large corporations are concerned. And although these new materials are completely different in their structure, they all have one thing in common: they possess characteristics that could relieve the planet’s energy plight. Billions are invested in research – the race to ensure technology’s adaptability to future requirements has already begun. Its objective is to find alternatives to expensive and hard to recover raw materials. Scientists around the globe are working on the further development of “miracle materials” such as carbon fibre, graphene, and particularly glass composites. The film takes a look at the high-tech labs of the future and asks how these new materials will change our lives.
