Personal data collected based on your use of the website
The website can generally be used without providing any personal data.
Log files
Each time our website is accessed, the servers and applications automatically collect data and information from the computer system of the accessing computer. The following data is collected temporarily:
- IP address
- Date and time of access
- Name and URL of the file accessed
- Website from which access is made (referrer URL)
- User agent (usually contains information about the browser used, the operating system of the computer, the manufacturer and the type designation of the mobile device)
- Amount of data transferred
- Notification of whether the access/retrieval was successful (HTTP status code)
Data processing is necessary to ensure the functionality of the website, the stability and security of our systems, to detect and protect against misuse (e.g. hacking or DDos attacks), and for the purposes of error analysis and correction. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in data processing pursuant to Art. 6, Par. 1 (f) GDPR. The information is stored in a log file for 30 days and then automatically deleted. As data processing is essential to ensure the security of our information technology systems, you can only avoid processing by not using our service. We take state-of-the-art protective measures to ensure the security of the data. We use the service provider punkt.de (punkt.de GmbH, Sophienstraße 187, 76185 Karlsruhe, Germany, infrastructure.punkt.de), with whom we have concluded a contract for this purpose in accordance with Art. 28, Par. 3 GDPR, which guarantees compliance with your rights when processing personal data.
Cookies & Identifiers
Our website uses cookies and identifiers. These are small (text) files that are stored on your device and allow websites and servers to distinguish an individual browser from other Internet browsers by means of the cookie ID (a unique identifier for the cookie). The use of cookies enables us to increase the user-friendliness and security of our website.
Without your permission, we may only store cookies on your device if they are necessary for the operation of this website. For all other cookies, you as a user have full control over their use. You can manage your consent and settings at any time using the consent tool we use, which can be found at the bottom of the page. There you will also find more detailed information about the services used in each case. We use the »Cookiebot« tool (Usercentrics A/S, Havnegade 39, 1058 Copenhagen, Denmark, www.cookiebot.com) for consent management. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Cookiebot for these purposes in accordance with Art. 28, Par. 3 GDPR.
Adobe basic tracking
We collect and analyse usage data to determine statistical parameters, evaluate the relevance of content, report on products, and identify faulty usage paths. As part of this, we process personally identifiable characteristics via the so-called «data feed«, which contains browser-related identification characteristics [the Experience Cloud Visitor ID (EC ID), which is comparable to a cookie ID and can be used to identify the browser of your end device]. We refer to this type of user behaviour tracking as »basic tracking« below. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the needs-based design of our website and the technical stability of the website, in accordance with Art. 6, Par. 1 (f) GDPR, § 25, Par. 2 No. 2 TDDDG. For the processing of information within the scope of basic tracking, we work with the provider »Adobe« (Adobe Systems Software Ireland Limited, 4-6 Riverwalk, Citywest Business Campus, Saggart, Dublin 24, Ireland), with whom we have concluded a contract for commissioned data processing for these purposes in accordance with Art. 28, Par. 3 GDPR.
Playback of videos
In order to play videos on this website and to create reports on video activities, improve the quality of our videos, detect technical problems and maintain and improve our services, we process statistical usage data (IP address, local ID, viewer ID, device type, browser type and version, times of use, duration of use) that may allow conclusions to be drawn about you as a user. The legal basis for this is Art. 6, Par. 1 (f) GDPR. For these purposes, we use the JW Player service [Longtail Ad Solutions, 8 West 38th Street, 6th Floor, NY 10018 New York, USA, jwplayer.com/legal/privacy], with whom we have concluded a data processing agreement that meets the requirements of Art. 28, Par. 3 GDPR and ensures compliance with your rights.
Personal data provided by you
If you provide personal data on our website, we will process it exclusively for the purposes stated.
Registration for an account
On our website, we offer you the option of creating a free user account by entering your email address and assigning a password. This account provides you with access to our videos and films and allows you to view them. The legal basis for this is Art. 6, Par. 1 (b) GDPR.
When you register for an account as a user, we process your name, address, company name, telephone number, IP address, and the date and time of registration in connection with your registration. This information is necessary to assess whether the request is from a broadcaster or editor. After an internal approval process and confirmation, you will receive an email from us. Data processing is necessary for registration and is based on Art. 6, Par.1 (b) GDPR. Providing your job title and website URL is optional and is therefore based on your voluntary consent (Art. 6, Par.1 (a) GDPR).
Contact
If you contact us via the email address(es) provided on the website, we will process your email address, details of your enquiry and, if applicable, your name for further correspondence and any resulting measures relating to your enquiry. We process your data based on our legitimate interest in contacting enquirers and answering your questions. The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6, Par.1 (f) GDPR. We only forward your enquiry within the SPIEGEL Group to those people who need it to respond to your enquiry. Please note that email communication is not usually encrypted. However, this website uses SSL or TLS encryption for general protection of transmission. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from »http://« to »https://« and by the lock symbol in your browser line. If SSL or TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot usually be read by third parties.
